Meet Dr. Bell

I have always aimed to be more than just a physician; I’ve sought to be an advocate, leader, and dedicated educator. My passion led me with the help of dedicated others to establish the very first hospice and palliative medicine fellowship in South Carolina. We felt that it was critical that we ensure a pipeline of highly trained physicians for the future of the state. As a part of the Professional Education Committee in NHPCO, I’ve been deeply involved in shaping and planning educational events, ensuring that every learner, regardless of their background, has access to both knowledge and training to ensure the success of their programs.

In my role as the Medical Director of Post Acute Services and Palliative Care programs and later as the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Arkansas Hospice, I’ve endeavored to elevate the standards of palliative care, hospice, and organizations that work with patients and families of the seriously ill . I was recognized with the assistance of my peers and co-workers as the Physician Leader of the Year in 2014 at Spartanburg Regional. Beyond the accolades, the Governor entrusted me with a significant responsibility, appointing me as the vice-chair of the Quality of Life and Palliative Care Task Force. The taskforces mission was to advise and make recommendations that would enhance the state of palliative care services in Arkansas.

At the core of my professional journey lies a deep-seated passion for the patients and their families facing serious illnesses. Every day, I have the privilege to standing along patients and their families, offering both medical expertise and compassionate support as they navigate through some of life’s most challenging moments. It’s not just about treating an illness, it’s about understanding the profound human experience that accompanies it.

My years in the medical filed has unequivocally taught me that the success of a patient’s journey hinges on the presence of a workforce that’s not only clinically competent but grasps the intricacies of the rules that govern our industry. Our future workforce in hospice and palliative care must be continuous learners that understand the ever changing regulatory and economic pressures we are facing. Their knowledge of these shifting tides is paramount to ensure our programs remain relevant, compliant and primed for success. As we move forward, it is our duty to nurture and champion a culture that strives to provide excellent clinical care while simultaneously keeping abreast of regulatory mandates. Organizations that are successful at performing these two tasks well undoubtedly set themselves apart as industry leaders. I want you to be that organization.
